- Video Tape Collection
- Since the early 1970's I have been interested in
technology. Thus any home "Hi-Tech" gadget you
could get I would buy.
- In the mid 1970's I had the 1st VCR aimed at the domestic
market, the Philips N1500 which could record one hour on
a tape.
- Later on it was replaced by the N1700 & N1702 which
could record 2 hours on the same tapes. The tapes by the
way were about £15.00 each.
- The N1700 series machines now had competition from VHS
and Beta and to compete Philips introduced the VCC (Video
Compact Cassette) format with flip over tapes giving you 4
hours per side. The machine I had was a VCC2000 with
optional infrared remote control.
- The only format really to survive has been the VHS and I
now have over 1000 tapes in my collection in this format.
It is true to say that I now hardly view them due to the
poor picture and sound (from the early non Hi-Fi sound
days).
- Of course DVHS (Digital VHS) is now on the horizon and
should yield longer recording time and better quality
pictures...
- DVD Collection
- Over the last few years I have collected over 1500 DVD titles.
- Laserdisc Collection
- Before CD's and DVD's were ever invented, there were
Laserdiscs! The same size as a 12" LP and storing
about one hour of video per side with stereo, Dolby
Digital or DTS sound. I have quite a large collection
going back to the late 1970's...
- CD Collection
- I have over 600 music CD's with a wide range of titles...
- MD Collection
- Over the last six years since the format launch, I have
amassed of 80 MD and have had five different portable
players along with three home units and one in my car...
- MP3 Collection
- I now have copied all of my audio CD collection onto my computer so I
can enjoy my collection anywhere in the world with my
Apple iPod. This is about 9000
tracks.
I also have two Slim MP3
Players in the house so I can listen to any of my audio tracks at home.
